AntiVirGear claims to be an antispyware program. In reality, it's a mailcious program intended to fool users into purchasing a fake product. AntiVirGear does this with cleverly crafted false warning messages that appear to be legitimate Windows alert messages. Exact verbage of these message varies but usually is something like "Your computer has been infected...". These pop-ups are generated by a Trojan horse program, which usually infects the PC when the user downloads an infected audio or video codec from an unethical site.
